Kage Kaisen Revival!

.SITE RENOVATION.

To all our members,

I (Kensei), have decided to renovate the site, which has remained dead since our head Administrator, Baraku, went absent. There will be a new set of rules, a new skin, new profile formats...

Basically, we're starting the site over.

But don't be alarmed. For those of you who choose to return, you will not have to rewrite your application, or change it to the present system. Your applications are still there, resting in the Filing Cabinet -- feel free and ask the Staff to repost it if it has already been approved, or ask them to read over the application and approve it, then move it to the Approved sub-boards.

If you do not wish to roleplay on the site any longer, or the renovation does not appeal to you, all you have to do is tell the Staff in a PM ; your account will be removed without any questions.

We apologize for any inconveniences, and thank you all for your patience and cooperation.

Your loving (new) head Admin,
Kensei

BIG Win Greenland National Gallery Project

Published on 16-02-2011 by Skyscrapernews.com
Not ones to let the grass grow under their feet, architectural firm BIG has again come up top trump in an international competition, this time to design Greenland's National Gallery.

Unanimously chosen out of six entries, all by Nordic architects such as Snohetta, Granda and Tegnestuen Nuuk, the project will be located in the capital city of Nuuk and is billed to be both an architectural and cultural icon for the country despite its host city having a population of barely 15,500.

Located on a steep slope overlooking the fjords, the 3,000 square metre National Gallery stands out among the typically domestic architecture of the city, forming a perfect circle which protectively encircles the focal point of the project, the sculpture garden.

Visitors enter into a lobby area that will offer a 180 degree panoramic view of the garden and fjords and lead to the ticket counters, boutique and café. The circular shape of the gallery will allow flexibility for the exhibitions sizes and shapes.

The location on the slope opens the garden towards the city and offers optimal views if the sculptures are not to taste. The external façade will be a simple white concrete designed to gain a patina over time while the inner façade will be a glazed. The coarse and simplistic nature of the facades is intended to allow the project to blend with it natural surroundings as well as complimenting the views outwards as well.

Nuuk is, after all, a city ringed by mountains on its landward side, so embracing nature as well as art is central to the plan. As with most such buildings, the success of this will depend on the quality of the finish, but if it gets pulled off Greenland should end up with an original, if modest, national gallery they can be proud of.
